Melvyn Liao, Wei-Ming received his Bachelor (major in graphic design) from Chinese Culture University, Taiwan in 1987. After military service he as senior graphic designer worked for Nova Design from1989 to1991. Melvyn obtained his MA (major in graphic design) from National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan in 1994. As a graduate student from NCTU, Melvyn’s works won honorable mention of The International Design Competition Osaka and gold prize of Taiwan Digital Illustration Competition, 1993.

Since 1994 Melvyn started his teaching career in the department of Visual Communication Design at Da Yeh University. He then transferred to National Taiwan Normal University in 2009. During his 26 year career as an educator, Melvyn took on chairman of the department of Visual Communication Design, DYU and director of Cultural & Creative Industries Center, NTNU. Melvyn awarded by outstanding teachers of Ministry of Education, Taiwan in 2007 and outstanding teachers of National Taiwan Normal University in 2013.

As a teacher working in universities, Melvyn worked on over 40 for private enterprise design projects and participated in government ministries projects , including The National Human Rights Museum logo and publications design, Twelve National Basic Education Propaganda short films produce …etc. As a design professional, Melvyn focuses on visual communication, pictogram design and infographics. In academic research, Melvyn is interested in visual communication design strategy and infographics procedure.
