“FANG Kun-Yung’s Collection of Temple Couplets in the Yilan” is a photography collection of local temples and a compilation of poetic manuscripts, presented in two volumes. It explores the interplay between Sinology and Taoist beliefs, emphasizing the cultural and historical connections between the two. A distinctive feature of this book is its dual-orientation reading format, inspired by how ancient scholars referenced classical texts. The larger volume on the right follows the traditional Chinese right-to-left reading format, allowing scholars to take notes freely with their right hand. Meanwhile, the left volume adopts classical Chinese thread binding with a traditional blue cover, restoring the essence of ancient Sinological manuscripts. This unique design enhances both the reading experience and the book’s historical authenticity.
